STRAITS

2: The strait that separates North and South Island in this country is named for the first European to command a ship sailing through it.

4: 20% of the world's oil shipments travel through this strait connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.

6: This strait separating mainland China from the island on which the Republic of China sits was known is ancient times as the Black Ditch.

8: The Palk Strait separates Tamil Nadu from this Indian Ocean island country.

10: This strait which separates a Mediterranean island from the European mainland is named for the island's capital city.

GRAMMAR TERMS

3: When these are correlative, they come in pairs like “neither/nor,” “just as/so,” and “not only/but also.”

6: Whether this collection of words is dependent or independent is determined by whether or not it can stand alone as a sentence.

9: In Spanish, regular verbs in this “undefined” form typically end in the letter R, while in English they follow the word “to.”

12: A “dangling” one of these words typically ending in -ing modifies the wrong noun.

15: In English grammar, this feature of a verb can be indicative, subjunctive, or imperative; Greek adds the optative and Arabic adds the jussive.
