Mike was big on the Daily Double hunting—not that it did him much good.

Mike's interview:

Alex: Michael Harris from Kerman, California, was the first contestant we introduced, and the card says that you are one of the world's worst and most compulsive punsters.
Michael: That has been true.
Alex: It has been? It is no longer true, Michael?
Michael: It probably still is, because I realize that most of the people on this show have to be smart alecks.

FJ: Oof.

I did not input the little bit I had of the DJ! round as I think there was a team email or post about a partial DJ! round messing up the Archive or doing something like skewing stats.

What I had of the DJ! round:
Spoiler
THE 20TH CENTURY
THEATRE
SEAFOOD
TECHNOLOGY
THE SOLAR SYSTEM
X,Y, & Z

THEATRE $200: "Picnic", "Our Town" & "A Chorus Line" have all won this award given for writing, not performance

Chris: Pulitzer Prize

20TH CENTURY $400: In April 1970 this world power launched its 1st satellite which broadcast the song "The East is Red"

Michael: China

THEATRE $400: The Crown Guide to Plays says Queen Victoria's 1st comman performance was a play about this demon barber

Michael: Sweeney Todd

THEATRE $600: Saroyan's "The Time of Your Life" is set in the waterfront district of this California city

Michael: What is Oakland? (That is where the tape cut off. Oakland is wrong for minus 600 and the correct response is San Francisco, but I don't know if it was rebounded or not.)
Thanks to the National Archives of Game Show History, this game is now very close to complete. The tape was cutting out in spots—Mark's information above was very helpful for getting Michael's incorrect response on DJ3. However, we're missing Susan's incorrect response on DJ11.

When it began Tyler gave his correct response to the 4th clue of the DJ! round. I got the challenger names from Alex kindly giving them in the FJ! round. I rigged the scores to have them add up when the game picked up. Although there were two clues left in Dogs, my viewing instincts tell me the first DD was in the U.S. Geography category. I gave Curt a double up there to have his score correct.

In Antonyms $400 the wording uses "town" for the place in Massachusetts to keep everyone happy.

As best as I can tell, that's currently all of the "partial" games in the Archive where we had the clues in the backlog to complete. (Though there are a couple of "placeholder" games where we have video.)

After nearly 17 years as a placeholder, 1996-03-08 is now in thanks to games shared with Archivists: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1153

Kevin Shultz, Andrew Burtle, and Carolyn Christian.

A very well-played game.

OntarioQuizzer wrote: Wed Jun 07, 2023 11:31 am Per his interview, Jeff's antique consulting specialty was restoration & maintenance, in case this gets anyone anywhere in terms of potentially correcting or confirming his last name. It's pronounced "WHEAT-so".
I'm coming up blank on all the spelling alternatives I can think of, Geoff, Geof, Ouitso, Ouitzo, Witso, Witzo, Weetso, Weetzo, Huittso, Huitson, Huitsel... Seems like he either changed his name or died...
There is a record of a Jeff Witsoe having lived in Michigan, but he was born in 1897 and died in 1952. Another Jeff Witsoe was born in California in 1975. (That one seems to be a professor of anthropology in Schenectady.)

Edit: there does exist a Polish last name Wieczorek, but I can't find a Jeff from Ohio by this name, nor anyone who opted to drop the last syllable. The Polish isn't pronounced anything like Wheatso, but I could see the first six letters getting turned into that in American pronunciation.
What do you think of the possibility of the name Ujczo being pronounced somewhat like "WHEAT-so"? I found a record for a Jeffrey with that last name who was born in Cleveland and another record for a Jeff (potentially the same person) living in California in 1991. The former individual would have been 26 at taping, in case OQ can rule him out based on the age not matching up.

26 at taping would have been very plausible. That's potentially the best lead we have right now, I think.

Thanks to the National Archives of Game Show History, moving another game out of the "17 years as a placeholder" club, 1989-06-26 is now in: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1135

Julie Dock, Jeff Kohlberg, and Bob Boyd.

You'd definitely have to have been an adult in 1989 to have had a shot at this Final in 2023.

The Daily Double at SINGERS for $300 is a perfect example of the kind of thing we mean when we say that music rights hold up rerunning some of thee old games.

I found a FindAGrave listing where someone added a picture from a 1974 yearbook: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/163 ... seph-ujczo

Edit: I found this guy's niece on Facebook and was able to comment asking if her uncle had been on Jeopardy in reply to an old, tangentially relevant post.

Edit again: She responded that he was! Jeff Ujczo confirmed.

Courtesy games shared with Archivists, another game moves from "placeholder" to "complete", 1986-02-03: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=4284

Dorothy Williams, David Whitehorse, and Garth Sturdevant.

An exciting game for Season 2.

This also means, I believe, that we now have 8,000 games where all clues and responses have been entered.

Appropriate theme categories for the J! Round
In 1993, in a game we haven't archived, they had STARS, STRIPES, FOREVER, and JOHN PHILIP SOUSA. Based on the calendar, I'd guess July 2. The only way I know the year is that I saw the category reveal on one of the hospital TV when I was working there that summer.
