Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Thanks to games shared with Archivists, Steve Chernicoff game 4, 1994-09-06, is in: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8019
John O'Donnell, Kim Smith, and Steve Chernicoff.
Kim was a champion the previous summer who was returned to the show due to a ruling.
Another dominating performance from Steve.
Rare Daily Double in the top row. The show should do this more often.

I guessed pet rocks before clicking the picture. You'd think I'd have been smart enough to not click the picture.

Ronald Vernon, Gary Roberts, and Paula Tupper.
Ronald had a bad time on the Daily Doubles.
The video cut out in spots, I really hope I got everything okay.

The untouched 1964 category would finally get played 2 months later in the Chip Beall game I just entered.OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:51 pm Courtesy the National Archives of Game Show History, Paula Tupper game 5: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8020

I wonder if either time Alex announced the category with the remark "Good year".MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 5:10 pm The untouched 1964 category would finally get played 2 months later in the Chip Beall game I just entered.

There were 20 negs and 17 unseen clues. Ouch.
What are the records for those two things?

For the contestant Chip, the description has "specialst' which should be "specialist"; tried to report via the j-archive correction suggestion mechanism but got the "tastes like yummy spam" message.OntarioQuizzer wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 8:02 am Courtesy the National Archives of Game Show History, we have 1985-02-11: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7994

From TuneIn here is 9/12/91: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8022
Bruce Cole vs. Ellen Jaffe McClain vs. Scott Zielan
Pretty good by the players. Until the FJ! round.
I hear sirens.

I matched Scott on the FJ response, but from his position I win with $2,399. Too bad he didn't notice the gift second place gave him in the previous game (or maybe he did and wanted to pay it forward).MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 2:35 pm From TuneIn here is 9/12/91: https://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=8022

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Courtesy of Tunein, we have show #1550, aired 1991-05-03.
The J! Round has a category about Jeopardy! categories. If anyone wants to know where the last clue's category was, it was from #587, aired 1987-03-03.
As shown in the resource, an unusual Oxford comma in Final.
The returning champ and DJ! leader Jeff must have hated the Final category; he lost out to the DJ! second-place player by not betting to cover. The post-DJ! totals don't even fit the Shore's criteria.
Alex noted that the new champ would have a 2-week vacation because of the 1991 College Championship.

Courtesy the National Archives of Game Show History, May 21, 1985. Jim Stewart vs. Anne Davis vs. Charles Beall.
My thanks to whichever archivist went in and fixed LITERATURE for $600. What a mess.
There's also an uncorrected scoring error in this game. James was credited twice for his correct response to CHILD STARS for $400(DJ), and he was then able to wager more than he should have on the next clue Daily Double. I kludged him an extra correct response elsewhere, so that his scores would be "correct".
Clue of the game will be the Daily Double at NATURE for $500, one of those "Name all the items in this list" clues that they loved so much in the early years:
Charles Beall is a very animated player. Lots of vocal and physical responses to correct and incorrect answers. It's a slog to archive, but to quote my good friend Henry Cabot Henhouse III, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it.
Onward.

Leslie Miller had a good debut with only 2 TS clues.
The wrong "king" at J11 is a guess for what was said.
I spelled the company at DJ23 how it sounded but checking on Google didn't work since it wanted to go the AFB route.
Tomorrow I'll do the sole S10 game the archivists have in the backlog if it is still unarchived. Archivists do have Leslie's other 2 regular play games not in yet.

I hear an "-na" at the end instead of an "-ma". I went ahead and made the change.
Also, it's Van den Bergh Foods. I'll make that change now as well.

I could name three men who I could be certain were on the Supreme Court in 1992; I picked one of those and he turned out to be right.

Courtesy the National Archives of Game Show History, May 22, 1985, Kevin Davis vs. Bodil Wiggins vs. Charles Beall.
All 3 players were from Texas, and there was a TEXAS category on the board. Everyone got at least 1 correct response, but Bodil beat Kevin to the Houston clue.
If you liked that LITERATURE nonsense from yesterday, you'll love BABY CARE for $500 on today's show. Rather than try to quote it, I just described it, but very weirdly, Alex went to Kevin before calling Bodil wrong, then he went back and did some guestimating to determine that Bodil wasn't close enough. Very "TOUGH TRIVIA for $1000".
Loosey-Goosey hosting part 2: in the DJ round, GOVERNMENT for $400, Alex walked Kevin through the lockout device on the buzzer, so he could get in with his response! Kevin was just flailing away.
Clue of the game will be FAMOUS ANIMALS for $200 (J!), a fun type of clue that I'd like to see make a comeback:
With a couple of late-game wrong guesses, they handed Charles a lock game, but it ultimately wouldn't have mattered. Alex did say everyone was still in it before going to FJ, and I wondered if Charles might overbet. He did not take the bait.
Fewer antics from Charles today (although still plenty), I wonder if he's getting tired. I guess I'll find out when I do his next game.

I got it!
Spoiler
And I didn't need the "unusual" TOM.
