That Jazz Nicknames category was total wheelhouse territory for me...

I play Buzztime trivia as "BIX", so if I had missed that one, I would have had to retire from trivia for good. I didn't miss it. (Whew) :)

having lived in the middle of greenwich village for almost 40 years, i ran the "jazz" category without hesitation.

btw, one of the regular bartenders at one of my regular village jazz hangouts was named "edward." whenever he was on duty, the club would be filled with beautiful, stylish and well-dressed women from "uptown" (that is, harlem). edward's full name was edward kennedy ellington II. edward's father was named mercer, and edward was named for his grandfather ... who was also known as "the duke." edward has had his own combo for many years - they play lots of the duke's music.

With the tourist angle, figured on Egypt/South Africa in the first instant, ruled out Nairobi as too central, then worried a bit about Nigeria because of the enormous population, but figured most don't have the capital to fly, so stuck with the "too obvious" answer.
I got Egypt & South Africa too, but paused to consider Morocco, thinking it might be a stopover point for traffic from the west.

Love that map!!!
I was having too much fun thinking aloud about the possibilities, I didn't get the answer in time.
I liked Johannesburg and Cairo but Africa IS big, so I started thinking they were too far apart, then about Nairobi or Lagos. Having been to Nairobi, I should have known better. I like nserven thinking about a place with lots of connecting flights in Morocco or Algeria.
Thank you, JeopardyFan#9821, I heard 'cities', too!
Too many choices doomed me.

And I thought it was a long way down the road to the chemist! That's just peanuts to Africa!
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
