Moira's mom finished 3rd on J! in the early 90s. Moira's zero wager bumped the family honors up a notch.

David had the buzzer his way for a lot of the match to earn his 3rd lock in four tries. FJ! is 1/4 for him with the total lost: $3,002

My guess for the FJ! clue was out of this world with Moon craters as I was not sensing sports to give me a chance at solving it. Give me a sniff at it being connected to something every four years (such as unlike in England 1966) and I could have connected the dots.

Tracker for David to see if he can sweep the week.

23/1 (1/5 TV Show Characters), 19/4 (1/5 Reading Rainbow)
trash: ducat, Wayne, galley (not galleon), pregnant
betting: :D :D :( (nuthin'), (instaget)
black pentagons were all that was necessary. "Worldwide audience in 1970" was bonus.

One of today's challengers, Moira Smith. Not to be confused with the only female NYPD officer killed on 9/11.

Drat... a galleon is not equivalent to a galley.

Ha! Heifer.

Hockey puck was where I went first, technology wise, but, despite knowing it was 90s tech, I still got stuck in a SFX mindset because of it
I'm not sure I would've been able to switch my brain into lower tech ideas even if it was LL.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): WIthnail & I (7), An Autumn Afternoon (7), Europa Europa (7), Tampopo (9)

Didn't get to watch the game due to all the Ian coverage, but I went the same place as you and stuck with hockey puck.

I thought this FJ would be a triple get and a unanimous board get. It just depends on accidental synapses that take you in the right or wrong direction. I may be more woke on the subject of optical balls because Callaway has been making a much hyped geometric pattern on golf balls (maybe not exactly a soccer pattern, but similar) for a few years. It supposedly registers as 14% larger to the brain. It also is 50% harder to find in the rough, lol..
The judges should have accepted denim immediately. The player might have adjusted her game technique on account of this ruling and drain on the finances. TIL that duffel is a fabric type.

I was introduced to soccer (what a stupid game!) before 1970, and I seem to remember that the ball was black and white... But then again, I could be misremembering, since the game sucked...

But I just remembered the California Clippers soccer club... Wiki says the club started in '66 and dissolved in '69.

Here's a newspaper ad from 1968... Image

Hmm...

So, I call BS on that clue.

Huh, I've found a few of those Callaways over the years but never knew there was a supposed scientific reason for the design, just thought it was a misguided effort to be differently appealing. But I'll try anything.

Doesn't negate the clue. The black and white pattern appears to have been introduced in '65 but was not used for the '66 World Cup:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_F ... atch_balls

The clue specified worldwide audience and the '70 World Cup did use the Telstar black and white ball.

So your counterargument requires a worldwide soccer match broadcast on TV that used a Telstar-like pattern prior to 1970.

sort of... but since the category is "innovations", I'm not completely wrong. Besides, the World Cup was not broadcast live to the USA in 1966, therefore it was not a worldwide audience in 1966.

My wife said football for FJ. Do you think that would have been correct?

Until reading this thread I had totally interpreted the wording of the clue wrong. I thought the implication was that a black pentagon was electronically superimposed for the telecast to help follow the ball, similar to what's been tried in hockey. Only now realizing the pentagons were physically added to the balls. Had I realized that this would have been a no-brainer.

Yeah, I think this is worthy of a poll slot, something like I got stuck trying to come up with a high tech innovation instead of a low tech one
