Melissa got the Coleridge bird and Karen said, "Not sports". This might be my favorite episode of the season and if Karen comes back for the SCC causing this ep. to be rerun in the summer I'll watch it again.

Karen led 21800 to 7100 to 6400 at DD3 with only a handful of lower clue amounts remaining. Karen could have locked the game with a low wager. She, instead tried to lock the other way with a big pretty 10,000. The look on her face when she realized she did not know the right Hans had me feeling the heat of the gaze at home.

I matched Melissa on the FJ! clue with no detour needed to Ms. Helen. That was getting the threepeat the hard way, but it worked for the champ. Zach picked a $400 clue with a DD still hiding. I wonder if he would have known the painter? If he had played the last DD.

So, uh...is DD3 of this game one of the worst wagers any contestant has made? Genuinely curious (and stunned) here.

Upon reading the first part of FJ, I thought to myself "Hmm, Yohannan looks a lot like Yossarian" and the rest just fell into place.

Agreed. Spent the time thinking, "It can't be that easy, can it?"

As for DD3, a correct bet of 401 locks it, while a miss still forces the champ to get 7 clues worth 4K to avoid the lock.
Sad thing was, this DD is something you really should know if you're going on J!

I count 5 clues worth $2400 meaning Melissa can max out at $9500 which means Karen can wager anything under $2800 and still maintain the lock assuming she misses none of the remaining clues. Regardless, it was not a well thought out wager. And for the umpteenth time I'll never understand how a contestant can set foot on stage without knowing how to wager and therefore play the game.

And yes, Holbein is very basic and even more so when spotted the Hans and the Younger.

At first I thought no, but since it's in essence a Clavin, it probably ranks up there. Monday's wager at DD3 was not good(but typical) as well but not a Clavin.

Lots of wind and rain, yes. Power outage? No. A smallish branch from a neighbor's tree fell harmlessly into the backyard. More rain next week and most of CA out of drought levels finally. Overall, the archiving has been going well with not too many problems. Of course, #39 at any time could change things.

I wouldn’t call it a Clavin wager as she still had the lead and was assured of having the lead going into FJ. It was certainly ill advised.

Instaget for me on FJ.

They're pronounced short-lived and long-lived with long I sounds.

I call hubris on Karen making that $10,000 daily double. She had a runaway and she put the game in play with that foolish bet.

And I went the other way, missing all the other Hanses because I forgot what category we were in but getting Holbein without even a "stop to think".

This content-coordinated ad (don't see too many of those) appeared on tonight's show. (Maybe it's been around a while and I've just never paid attention.)

Guy: [Turning off TV with remote while laying on bed] You know, I think I'd do pretty well at this game.

Gal: [Sitting on chair next to bed] "What is 'Dan is lying to himself again'?"

Guy: [Sitting up and gesturing to invite a challenge] Betcha I'm not.

Gal: [Incredulous] Okay! "This mattress company made luxury mattresses affordable."

Guy: Saatva!

Gal: [Imitating buzzer] Errrn!

Guy: [Protesting] That's right!

Gal: [Tapping guy on his nose] It wasn't in the form of a question.

Guy: [Breaking fourth wall, flopping down on the bed in defeat] Ugh!

Narrator: Saatva: luxury mattresses made affordable.
