I'm not all that surprised that Ben lost because yesterday's episode of Inside Jeopardy included Sarah's onstage "so how does it feel to be an eight-time winner?" interview with Ben.

Ben was 0/3 on wagering clues and that was enough to bounce him when coupled with Lynn hitting her DD.

If the writers were looking for the players to have problems with the football category it was not going to happen today.

The FJ! clue had my coin wrong either way with T & C on one side and A & C on the other. If I had got as close as Ben did I'm sure I would have written the same error.

60 clues played out of 61 is not bad considering the pace was the opposite of Masters.

Wow, brutal. If this were baseball, you'd say that Ben got "k"ed.

This game is a draw for the Weak Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "small." --Bob

me, literally yesterday wrote: Mon May 22, 2023 2:29 pm I can see that streak ending tomorrow, but him losing is currently harder to envision. Let's see what you got, Danny and Lynn!
...whoa.

I knew the runaway streak had to end eventually, but an outright loss by just one incorrect letter in FJ wasn't something I saw coming. I mainly saw his streak ending by having poor DD luck, but...wow. Regardless of if she wins her next game or not, congrats to Lynn! Still a J! champ at the end of the day, and her wagering strategy won out over Ben's for FJ. I was wondering when a triple miss was going to happen again...

I didn't really think so - the name is Benedick, not Benedict, and these are famous characters from a famous play. Kinda saw it coming, just surprised it came from Ben. I wonder - were they warned that they had to be precise about the spelling?

Was it a mis-spelling, or did he mis-remember the name?

Ben has been emanciptated from Jeopardy.

Go, Lynn. I like the confidence with which she answered the medical questions.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Per Reddit, the mis-spelling got into his flashcards from a number of sources, including Franck's On the Tip of My Tongue.

I guess he's not a Shakespeare fan, then?
My problem wasn't spelling, it was somehow deciding the clue wanted title characters...so I ended up with Troilus and Cressida... If I'd thought harder, Benedick(-tion) makes it pretty obvious...

I knew the right characters, but I also know the opera version by Berlioz, which is Beatrice et Benedict, so I’m pretty sure I would have made the same spelling mistake.

That's what tripped me up. I've seen the Branagh-Thompson movie at least three times, but have never actually read the play. I majored in English at UCLA which required taking two Shakespeare classes, but Much Ado wasn't part of the assigned reading. I assumed Berlioz was using Shakespeare's spelling.

It'll be interesting to see how many people check the Benedict box for the weekly poll. I think there are three basic possibilities for those who missed FJ:

- Spelled the name"Benedict," just like Ben.
- WOULD have spelled the name "Benedict" if I'd thought of the right response.
- WOULD have spelled the name "Benedick" if I'd thought of the right response.

I'd be interested to see how the responses break down, but that may be more than Mark wants to poll for. He's got a good instinct for how much is enough, so I'm happy to leave the decision to him. Anyway, I said Beatrice and Benedict and was sure I was right and was checking off another win for Ben when his response was revealed... and then... wow.
